DIY Glitter Candle Votive

Hello my Do-it Yourselfers!

I found the most adorable (and simple) blog post on how to make glitter candle votives and decided to do my own twist on it.  See the original blog that I got the idea from HERE. I thought stripes of glitter would look cute so I busted out the scotch tape and went to town!

I like how these look like glittery sand–I love the beachy look!

First, I selected the glass candle votives I wanted to glitter-fy. I used old medium sized candles from Bath and Body Works that has nothing left to burn and cleaned the wax and wick out…voila! Perfect tea light candle votive. You can also use a store bought candle and just remove the label. ☺

You will need:

-Glass candle votives
-Modpodge
-Glitter (The finer the glitter, the easier it adheres to the modpodge)
-Smaller paintbrush
-Something to cover the work area (I just used newspaper)
-Scotch tape or painters tape
-Tea light

Method:

1. Cover your work area to keep it clean, I don’t understand it but somehow glitter always seems to multiply!

2. Make sure the outside of the glass is clean so everything will adhere evenly.

3. Tape off the sections you don’t want glitter on. For solid glitter, I still taped off about ¼ in on the top and the bottom of the votive so the glitter coating looked more structured. For stripes, I taped off the top and bottom again and then also a band of tape around the middle of the votive.

(Tip: for the middle band of tape, be sure to leave one end of the tape sticking out, it will make it so much easier to remove later if you don’t have to dig through glue and glitter to find the end of the tape.)

4. Once tape is fully adhered, paint on the modpodge using a paintbrush, do a fairly thin coat but make sure it is opaque.

5. Dust on the glitter of your choice! I used Recollections Extra Fine Glitter in Champagne. Be sure it is fully coated and no glue is showing.

6. Let dry then peel off the tape.

7. Place tea light into the now glittery and chic votive, and you’re done!

MANICure Monday: Berry Pretty

Hi my Beauties!

It's the dreaded Monday again, but here at JessicaHeartsBeauty we like to think that manicures make Mondays a tad bit better. :)

This week I'm sporting a fabulously chic, deep berry polish. The polish is from L'Oreal in the color Crazy For Chic. I have to admit the formula is fantastic–it is highly-pigmented, creamy, shiny and the larger brush makes it a breeze to evenly coat the nail. (I only had to use one coat!!)

What polish are you rockin' this week?

Pucker Up With The Top 5 Summer Lip Products

Hello Beauties!

School's out and summer is here so today we're talking all about the most wearable, fun and fresh lip products. These are perfectly wearable during the toasty months and are fabulous, while still being easy on the wallet.

Here's a round-up of products to achieve the perfect pout this summer:

1. L'Oreal The Balm in Caring Coral
This ultra-hydrating balm smells like cotton candy, applies silky smooth and leaves a beautiful light coral tint to the lips. True to its name, The Balm feels and looks like a glossy lip balm without ever being sticky or tacky. (This is my absolute favorite product right now!)

2. Maybelline Color Whisper in Pinup Peach
A moisturizing little lipstick/balm, the Color Whisper offers much more color pay off than the L'Oreal The Balm but is also less glossy. However, if you want the color of a lipstick with the moisturizing effect of a lip balm, this is the ticket!

3. L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Sunset Angora
Peachy keen I'd say! (You may sense a peach-colored theme at this point, but in my eyes it is the color of the summer and pairs well on everyone.) I am smitten with these lipsticks and this color in particular, a gorgeous peach shade. The color pay off is fantastic and beautifully opaque (that of a lipstick) but also has a moisturizing consistency, which in turn creates a slight glossy sheen to the lips. (Best lipstick!)

4. The new Covergirl LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in 235 Coral Twist
Now I have to admit, this is not what I would consider a coral color. It is more of a highly pigmented bright pink and isn't as glossy as I was expecting, it is more of a slight sheen. If you love bright colors check out this line, I personally dab the color onto my lips and rub it in for a more natural lip while still getting a fairly bright color.

5. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti
The lip butters that arguably started all of the latest chapstick/lipstick combo craze, the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. Hands down I love these lip butters. They are pigmented, glossy, moisturizing and are still very wearable because they allow some of your natural lip color shine through. The only downfall is that they are very soft, so they melt and break easily in warmer weather (part of mine broke off trying to make a swatch.) I personally love the bright color trend which includes orange, however sometimes I find it difficult to wear on a daily basis. When dabbed on the lips, this color provides a fun pop of orange while still staying semi-sheer. It follows the trend without so much commitment! :)

Ta-da! That is it for my round-up of my favorite products for a fabulous pout this summer! What are your favorite lip products currently?

MANICure Monday: Rose Gold

Hello my little beauties!

Happy MANICure Mondays (see what I did there?) this is a new series I'm starting that will be short and sweet on the editorial front. Each Monday, I will post the current manicure I'm wearing and the polish I used to create it. It really will be that simple; Something quick and easy to take in. So here we go :)

Today I'm wearing (and loving!) this rose gold polish from Orly called Rage. It's absolutely gorgeous, applies like a dream and is opaque in one coat...what more could I ask for?! The color achieves a rosé gold color using a ton of little sparkles which in turn, gives a bit of a chrome effect.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Review and Swatches

Hi my Beauties!

I have a new beauty obsession and it is *drumroll please* the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette! (Just in case you couldn't tell from the title) I have been eyeing the larger UD Naked Palettes for awhile but held off due to the steep price tag, $50 ouch.

This little beauty was launched earlier this year and immediately piqued my interest. Not only is it about half the cost, $27 at Sephora, but it features easily wearable shades. The other Naked Palettes have twice the shadows but let's face it, when I have a palette with any more than six colors I get overwhelmed and only use half of them.

The Naked Basics Palette consists of mostly of matte shades, differing from the original Naked Palette and Naked 2 which consists mostly of shimmery shades.

I am absolutely enamored with this palette, I use it every day and it creates the most beautiful natural eye looks with ease. The shadows are so creamy and highly pigmented that a little goes a long way and they all blend easily. Venus is a beautiful light satin color (gives a slight shimmer), perfect for highlighting the inner corner and brow bone. I like mixing Foxy and Walk of Shame for my lid color then working Naked 2 into the crease and darkening the outer corner with Faint. Using a thin pencil brush with the dark coffee color, Crave is amazing along the lash line instead of eyeliner for a natural smokier look.

I did a full eye make tutorial using this palette. Check it out here.

Shades (L-R): Venus, Foxy, Walk of Shame, Naked 2, Faint, Crave.

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup Review

Hi my Beauties!

I was recently asked by one of my best friends about my opinion on the L'Oreal True Match Lumi foundation, and I thought why not share my experience with you as well. (I hauled this item in my last drugstore makeup haul, see what else I got here :D)

Let's start with the packaging, I love the weight of the glass bottle as it feels so luxurious and high-end. I am also smitten with the pump used to dispense the product, many drugstore foundations don't even have a pump and yet this one is so easy to use and control how much product you want.

There's an expansive range of shades in either the warm (more yellow), neutral, or cool (more pink) tones. I am the color W1-2 porcelain-light ivory (the names are crazy long). This foundation has SPF 20 which is nice and claims to give skin a luminous healthy glow.

Now that the specs and description are out of the way, my opinion on this product is to skip it if you're perusing the drugstore aisles.

I have combination skin and get dry patches on my chin and cheeks as well as oily in my T-Zone, making it hard to find a foundation that will fit the bill.

I found this foundation to have light to medium coverage and is quite runny and watery. When applied, it didn't absorb or blend well on my skin. It sat on top of the skin and clung to the dry patches as well as noticeably sunk into my pores-not ideal.

This foundation did give a little glow and made my skin feel very soft, I just wish it blended better and looked more natural.

I think that this foundation may work for someone that wants a natural, light coverage, who doesn't have any dry patches, or an issue with larger pores.

Have you tried the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup? What did you think about it?
